“If we seek paradise outside ourselves, we cannot have paradise in our hearts.” – Thomas Merton Being single is UNDERRATED! Here are our tips on seeking paradise within yourself this Valentine's Day. 1. Take yourself on a damn date! If you're nervous about going out on Valentine's Day and having to deal with massive PDAs and sappy couples, don't be! It is only misery if you let it control you (and you never know who might *actually* be having an awful time with their date). If you see the idea of taking yourself on a date challenging, accept the challenge. Take the opportunity as a life lesson to step out confidently on a day that is labeled as a "couple's" holiday. Going out alone on Valentine's Day is a radical act of self-love and self-confidence! We are only as strong as our mindset...enjoying time with yourself (in public) is extremely liberating!
2. Staying in alone? Binge on anti-Valentine's Day movies! The Love Witch (60s horror, hell yes) Kill Bill 1 & 2 (Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique for the win!) Thelma & Louise (Hashtag ultimate Galentine's Day flick) Frances Ha (Self-realization and singlehood -- on Netflix!) 3. Do a self-love ritual. Light a pink candle dressed with jasmine or rose essential oil. Sit or stand in front of a mirror, gazing at all of your body parts, and thank them (out loud!), one by one, for all of the ways they have carried you through this life. "Thank you, I love you." - practicing inner peace is the absolute BEST gift you can give yourself, any day of the year. 4. If you're set on being around people on Valentine's Day, Palentine it up! Pre-plan to meet up with your friends at a local dive bar or coffee shop. Create Valentine's day bingo cards or organize a (visual) scavenger hunt to include the following: "Couple making out in the corner" "Group of single guys" "Red heart balloon" "Bouquet of roses" "Awkward conversation" *** Re-define this lover's holiday as something personal to you. Be your own lover, baby. S: Self-confident I: Independent N: Nourished G: Grateful L: Layered E: Enlightened *** "I've been searching my whole life for the motherfucking one and she was here the whole time." -Lizzo xox, Rock Candy
